Today I want to share with you a business philosophy that just flat out works.
It’s a MUST when marketing yourself online. If you want to have success online, that is.
Here is the super simple philosophy…
Give before you get (ask).
Simple, but not easy.
In fact, Gary Vaynerchuk (someone I have a slight man crush on), has a book called Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook: How to Tell Your Story in a Noisy Social World.
“Jabs” are the value you are giving your marketplace and the “hook” is asking for the sale. Notice how their is more than the other? You want to give MORE.
A lot of agents go for the close so quick.
If the buyer is not ready that week, the agent is “on to the next one”.
Like a high school senior on prom night, they’re trying the close too early (another Gary V reference).
How about adding value BEFORE asking for the business?
Odd, I know.
A few months ago an agent reached out to me. Him and I jumped on the phone and chatted for a bit. We chatted about him just getting into the real estate biz, along with his clothing line company he owns.
I unloaded a ton of profitable ideas for both of his businesses — especially for his online clothing shop. I was fired up on the call and very excited for him, as I knew if he implemented what I shared, he could double his sales from his online store.
I wasn’t trying to sell him anything. Just sharing some tips & strategies that could help increase his bottom line.
At the time, he was not an official agent, as he had not taken his real estate exam. He told me he was interested in Consistent Commissions once he became as agent.
I added him into my CRM to follow up with.
About a month ago I reached out to him. He then told me that his real estate exam was on 4/16/15.
I reached out to him last Friday, asking how the exam went. This was one day after his exam.
He was blown away.
That I remembered…
…and that I reached out to ask.
He then emailed earlier this week…
He’s asking me how to become a private client.
I am not chasing him.
I am not begging him for business.
I provide a ton of value upfront and people want to do business with me. That’s the best way to do business online.
Will some people take my free advice and not spend a penny with me?
And I am ok with that, I actually welcome it, because…
Chances are — they probably wouldn’t be much fun to work with anyways. So my content actually serves as a “filter” for me.
It works the same for agents.
In fact, it’s easier to do when marketing in the B2C space.
You’re at a big advantage, because I would be absolutely shocked if more than a few agents in your marketplace did business this way.

P.S. In Monday’s email, I am going to share another example of this philosophy that happened while I was typing this email.
