The World Wide Web is full of scammers.
I realize I am not going to win any awards with that earth rattling statement.
After sending my bank account information, mother’s maiden name and social security number to those Nigerian prince’s a dozen times, I discovered I was not going to be able to retire by 25.
Live and learn, I guess.
A client of mine reached out to me last week about an email she had received. Someone emailed her offering a domain they had for sale that was relevant to her industry.
She typically runs any marketing/advertising solicitations by me and I give her my honest opinion. Most are scams, but over the years, I have advised her on a few that might be worth testing.
Anywho, last week a company by the name of Elite Space Web Development contacted her about a domain they had for sale.
The domain they were trying to sell was: EmergencyDentistsLasVegas.com (I am not providing a live link as this would add value to these scammers)
The person who contacted her said the domain could be purchased for $385 (or best offer), but she had to hurry as she has had “received a few inquiries”. It’s still for sale, so those “inquiries” must not have been that serious.
What Are Exact Match Domains?
Exact match domains are domains with the keywords in the website address.
Keyword: Las Vegas Emergency Dentists
Exact Match Domain: EmergencyDentistsLasVegas.com
There was a time when exact match domains helped with search engine optimization. Not anymore as they released an update in the Fall of 2012. There are hundreds of factors when ranking a website and the domain name has very little to do with it, if anything at all.
Some domains certainly can be valuable, but you must know what to look for. The above domain had zero value and I’ll show you why.
I use a tool called Majestic SEO to check the value of domains BEFORE I purchase them. It’s a free tool and you can do the same. It’s very simple and I will show you the two things to look for to see if the domain has any value.
You will be shown this screen;

You want to look for three things;
- External backlinks – A lot of variables, but I would suggest looking for 20+
- Trust flow – should be higher than 10
- Citation flow – should be higher than 10
Now this is not a post on how to find a valuable domain, but these are some simple things to check. There is a lot of research to that goes into finding profitable domains. More backlinks do not mean it is better, as all backlinks are not created equal. You can tell a lot from the Trust flow and Citation flow.
The above image is the backlinks form the domain I referenced above. As you can see, it has jus about zero value. It is certainly not anywhere near the $385 price and I would estimate it’s worth to be around $10, the price of a brand new domain.
Look, there is a whole website dedicated to stopping these domain spammers: Quit Fu**ing Domain Spamming Me
Be careful of companies offering these types of domains. Running it through a tool like SEO Majesitc should only take you 3-5 minutes and
might, most likely will save you money.
If you want, you can email me the domain at Adam@SocialSinergy.com and I’ll let you know if the company is trying to take you for a ride.
Chances are, they most likely are.
