So an agent emailed me the other day saying my methods wouldn’t work for her.
How dare she?
My methods work for everyone.

Anywho, she really liked the content and said I had “very good ideas” — which I agreed with 🙂
She said she is in a resort/secondary market and these strategies would not work for her.
You just have to think outside the box.
In fact, I told her she’s in a GREAT place as it’s more of a challenge.
Now, I am a HUGE fan of content marketing, if you haven’t noticed.
100% of my database has come from content I have created and shared on the World Wide Web. No buying lists here, Jack! This is all organically grown.
That content could be blog posts, videos, webinars, ebooks, emails, etc. Creating helpful/valuable content to help your target market is how to win online.
As I peak into my crystal ball — content is going to be MORE important going forward.
It goes back to the Serve First, Sell Second post I published last week.
Anyways, I suggested to her that she create helpful content for her target audience. She told me the people who buy homes turn them into rentals, so the owners are never there, maybe two weeks out of the year.
Surely those “would be buyers” are looking online BEFORE buying, wouldn’t you say?
Maybe they are searching for..
- Rental rates in CITY NAME
- Property management companies in CITY NAME
- Insurance companies in CITY NAME
These are just a few examples, I am sure you could think of plenty of others. Also, once someone has one rental, they most likely will buy more.
Not always the case of course, but I would assume most people who buy rentals have more than one. Ya know, maximize their return on investment.
After they are home owners, they may search for plumbers, electricians, handymen, cleaning services, etc for maintenance on their rental home.
You could reviews these different services and post them on your website.

You want to become a utility for your target market. What are they looking for before AND after they buy a home?
That is a GREAT place to start with your content marketing efforts.

So as I was writing this email this morning, I was curious to see if this blog post was ranking on Google for my keyword. Now I don’t do any traditional SEO or build links, I just like to write good, helpful content and let Google reward me, if they think it’s helpful.
So I did some deep-dive research (read: Googled real estate blog topics) and found this…
So out of 97 MILLION results which one would you click on?
The one with 72 topics?
Or one of the ones with 101?
Or maybe 104?
More is better, right?
Ah…who wrote the one with 104 topics?
There is a reason I choose 104 topics when I wrote that post. I saw the 72 & 101 lists. I wanted to top them.
Bigger is better, but only when it comes to list posts — nothing else. Well, I guess pizza, too. Bigger pizza is ALWAYS better.
Now I am hungry…
Back to bid’ness…
I choose 104 for two reasons…
- The higher number typically outperforms when it comes to list posts
- It’s a blog topic per week for 2 years — 52 weeks x 2
So I checked my Google Anaytlcis stats to see how much traffic this was generating me.
Because rankings don’t really mean anything if it is not generating traffic, right?
In the last 30 days, it has been the 5th most visited page on my site.
A bit hard to read, but it is 115 pageviews in the last 30 days.
Average time on page is 2:18.
So, that comes down to 3.8 visitors per day, find this post online and visit my website.
A blog post I wrote a year ago.
I probably spent 2-3 hours on this post.
It continues working for me…
…ONE year later.
It’ll most likely work for me for years to come.
