This is a follow up post form one I posted the other day: Progres Not Perfection: My 5 Biggest Disappointments of 2013. As I said in that post, i didn’t want to be “Negative Nancy” so I also wanted to share with you my 4 greatest achievements of 2013.
1. Our Daughter
She is, by far, my greatest accomplishment ever. She is my everything. It is amazing what I have learned about life in the first 115 days she’s been on Earth. She makes me laugh, she makes me cry and she always makes me smile. She is amazing and I am so grateful to have such a healthy baby. Amanda, her Mom, has been an absolute saint as well. It hasn’t been the smoothest road, but it sure has been a lot of fun.
2. Commitment to the Gym
I started 2013 like everyone else, focused and ready to change my life and others. One of my resolutions was to go to the gym 10 times in January. I know, probably the most common resolution.
I had not been to the gym in years so I wanted to start slow, and thought 10 days would be something I could achieve.
It was January 19th and I had not went to the gym yet. Not once. I had 12 more days in January and had to go to the gym 10 of those days if I wanted to start 2013 with a bang.
January 2oth and I still had no went to the gym. So the first 20 days I had not made it to the gym once and now had 10 more days in January to achieve my goal. This is not going to be easy, if it’s even possible.
February 1st rolls around and I took a day off. I had to as I just went to the gym for 10 consecutive days. I did it. I completed my goal for January, then I upped the stakes.
I was committed to going to the gym 5 days/week. A much bigger goal than I originally set for myself.
50 weeks later and I am still holding on to my streak. It has turned into an obsession. Although, some days I decided to exercise outside, instead of actually going to the gym as I needed to mix it up a bit. So I have 50 consecutive weeks of getting at least 30 minutes of exercise, 5 days/week. I am not talking walking either. This is weight lifting, running on the treadmill and/or playing football at the park.
I am damn proud of this.
With that being said, I have gained 9 lbs since I started. I was hoping for the needle to go the other way on the scale. I found myself justifying pizza, McDonald’s and donuts at the gas station because I knew I was going to exercise that day. So in 2014, I need exercise AND watch what I eat.
They work together.
3. Sin City Local
I created Sin City Local, a Facebook community of Las Vegas locals, i February of this year. It grew to 2,500+ fans within the first 30 days. I did spend money on Facebook ads to grow the community, but haven’t spent any money since May. It’s been all organic growth since then. Currently the page has 4,027 fans.
We help connect the people of Las Vegas through social media, mainly the Facebook page. I also interviewed 50+ local business owners over the summer in what I called Sin City Spotlight. The first 15 or so interviews were done via Google Hangouts so I could interview the business owners from my office. I then started interviewing these business owners in person. This was much more time consuming, but I found it to be a lot more valuable, for me at least.
These interviews were posted on our Las Vegas business directory website, our YouTube channel and the Facebook page. All in all, it was a total success with the local businesses gaining exposure, the community getting to know the business owners and I had the pleasure of meeting some fantastic people. Out of the 50 or so people I interviewed, 5 of them were from Michigan, pretty neat at that is where I am from.
4. More Content = More Exposure, Traffic, Leads & Sales
77 blog posts were published on this site this year. A post of mine was recently mentioned on the New York Times, most of these posts are now featured on Yahoo Small Business Advisor, I was mentioned on Staples’ website and also mentioned on a lot of other smaller blogs. The leads generated from this site continue to increase each month.
I believe this website is the biggest online marketing blog in all of Las Vegas. I cannot confirm that 100%, but from the research I have done, this site is the largest with 919 indexed pages on Google. I have looked at 25-30 other online marketing companies in Las Vegas and most are around 200 pages.
If that is the case, I am very proud of this.
These are the 4 accomplishments I am most proud of from 2013. I already have some ideas of what I plan on writing for next year’s post.
A little hint…they are going to be BIG 🙂
